Stressed Out Because There Is Nothing To Do Before Christmas??

Hi Guys!

Today it’s no less than eleven days to Christmas and, as I assume so many of us are, I’m stressed out. But no, I don’t have all of my Christmas shopping left to do, I’m not buried with assignment to hand in before the break and I also don’t have any family gatherings with the potential to stress me out coming up. The fact that there is literally nothing that could possibly stress me, distresses me tremendously.

Here’s why I think why this is:

People are so used to be running non-stop during the pre-Christmas that the thought of being able to sit down for a moment and maybe do nothing but read a book strikes us as weird or maybe even unnatural. The constant feeling of guilt lingering in the background if we do just nothing leading up to the holidays becomes a steady companion, keeping us (for that matter, I don’t know about you, but I know about me, so maybe keeping me) for being able to enjoy the off-time we get.

I would try to give advice and say try to chill out before Christmas, but realistically speaking, I know that most people don’t really get around to do this because of the job, because the education system which every year anew manages to ruin the pre-Christmas season for students, because of so many things that potentially could keep us from having a minute to ourselves.

For me, though, I’ll carry on doing what I’m doing right now, which is precisely nothing.
Have a good one and maybe try to look after yourselves during December!

All the love,

Winter Is Coming

Hi Guys!

Grab a blanket, a book and a nice cup of hot tea/ beverage of choice and enjoy the oncoming season that is winter! (That is if you’re not already struggling with finishing your work/school stuff already).

Yesterday we had the first snow where I live: my first reaction was to jump with joy for I love a good snowball fight, the second panic because my car does not have winter tires (yet), and the third distress because nobody in the house could find our mechanic’s number.

Anyways- winter is coming (shameless GoT reference) and I’m getting excited even though for the most part I hate it being so cold. Snow might also mean that people start driving as if they got their licenses the day before because the street are covered in an ever so slightly in snow and what is even worse that I probably won’t be able to ride my bike to Uni and “These Boots Are Made For Walking” becomes the soundtrack of my life again.

Winter Beauty

But I don’t wanna rant away for too long since there are some pretty brilliant sides about winter as well: Everything gets a bit more cozy and slow, and suddenly I don’t have to explain to everybody why I sleep with two to three feather beds. The cold also means that the colder it gets the more excuses there are to have tea. All day, every day. And let’s not forget the most important points of all: Christmas jumpers.

Here’s some of the things on my winter checklist:

  • Buy gloves (I believe I lost the pair I had last year and now I don’t have any except these super hot skying gloves)
  • Get out the winter clothes
  • Get a birdhouse
  • Take a preventive anger management lesson in preparation for all these poor drivers

So happy winter to all of you guys, and may you not suffer to much in the cold,

Talk to you soon,

Let’s Talk About Halloween For A Minute

Hi Guys!

It’s (almost) that time of the year again! Halloween! The time during which most people are looking forward to the creeps, and the time I am looking forward to Pumpkin Spice Latte because I’m a baby when it comes to horror. (Seriously, the scariest movie I’ve ever seen was My Bloody Valentine (about which I am told it’s nothing), I also believe I watched it because Jensen Ackles was in it). But let me come to the point and talk about Halloween.

Etymology of Halloween

The origins of Halloween can be traced back to the Celtic festival of Samhain (/ˈsɑːwɪn/), one of the for big Celtic holidays. Samhain was celebrated from sunset October 31st to sunset November 1st, about halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. Celebrating Samhain, the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter, was widely observed in Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Men. Samhain was considered a limited time frame when the Aos Sí (mostly believed to be remnants of nature spirits) could more easily come into our world. The tradition of costuming also goes back to ancient times; they are considered to imitate, or disguise oneself from, the Aos Sí.

The celebration is thought to have Pagan origins, and has since it’s beginnings been quite popular: it is mentioned in some of Ireland’s earliest literature as well as in Irish mythology. On Samhain the souls of the dead were thought to revisit their homes, and places at the feast were saved from them.

Four Halloween facts for you here:

1) Today HalloTurnips...ween is mainly a highly commercialized holiday, coming right after Christmas
2) Originally Jack O’Lanterns were made from turnips (have a picture)
3) Samhainophobia is the fear of Halloween
4) A man named Jack who was denied entrance in both heaven and hell for tricking the devil is according to Irish legend the name-giver for Jack O’Lanterns. Condemned to wander Earth he lead people off their paths by waving his lantern at people.

Personally Halloween is my favorite holiday after Christmas even though I live in a country where it is rarely (basically never) celebrated, but I guess that’s why I am slightly obsessed with it.

So have a spooky day the all of you; I’ll be off to carve a pumpkin or so
talk to you soon,

Things I do not understand about life and/or people II

Hi Guys,

as you may or may not have seen, some weeks ago I publish a post which was about things I don’t understand about life and people.

Continuing the tradition of being an (rather?) dysfunctional human, here are some more things which withdraw themselves from my understanding for you:

  1. Cashiers that hand me the bills first, then the coins
The scenario is as follows: I’m hectically trying to stow away all the thing I’ve bought while a unimpressed cashier is already waggling with my return bills. I finally get around to taking it, and what follows? The coins. So one hand occupied with a bag, other occupied with the bills, where do you want me to put my coins?!

  2. People hoarding Facebook friends
One of the greatest struggles our generation has to face is keeping their face on social media. Some people curiously seem to think that having a gazillion Facebook friends makes them cooler or superior in any way. Funnily enough, most of these friend-hoarders will say they are offered the friendship, but when you ask the other party you will be told they have been offered the friendship. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

    too late now

  3. People who go to a fast food restaurant to order diet coke
This might be the one that makes me wonder what a weird bunch people are the most: Come on, your probably going to have a 2000 calories burger, and saving a few hundred calories more on a regular coke is not going to help you. Face reality, my friend, it’s too late.

  4. People who abruptly stop walking
It’s a busy day, I’m in town and suddenly some douche bag just stops walking. No, never mind, I love crashing into smelly strangers.

  5. People who think they will make themselves heard when they shout
Some people think their voices will be heard more easily when they shout. In reality it’s just pathetic when you have to shout to make yourself heard. People should rely on their arguments, not on their lung volume.

I could go on with the list but I doubt anybody has further interest in my ramblings, so I’ll leave it be.
Stay tuned and slay life-

Striving For Perfection?

Hi Guys,

today I’ll be talking/writing about a topic which I feel quite passionately about: Perfection.

Perfection is a lot, but how could we put a finger on it?
Rooted in the from Old French perfection, which again goes back to the Latin word perfectio, the word first appeared in the early 13th century.
But what is perfection? Integrity in all things? Perfect beauty? Sharp wits? Serious wisdom and intelligence? Here’s the entry for the word:

As appealing the idea of being perfect may be, I do think the state of perfection has its flaws. If we had no little flaws, how could we classify ourselves human? I believe being human means – must mean – not being perfect. How could we classify intelligence, and great character traits, and beauty if all of us were knowledgeable of everything; if everybody was a person uniting the best traits humans can have, like bravery and loyalty?

Somebody who I thinprogress perfectionk must have been/must be very smart said: “Strive for progress, not perfection.”

I think this strikes the chord: Instead if wasting time trying to reach the (in my opinion rather undesirable) state of perfection, we should invest more time in working on ourselves, trying to eradicate major flaws which make it hard for ourselves and others to have a good time being around us.

I do remember quite well when I was younger I wished I was perfect; what that concept would have included I don’t remember vividly. Now, as I get a bit older (and maybe even a bit wiser) I have learned to embrace my peculiarities and little flaws, because now I realize that these are the things that make me liking myself and being liked by others.

Enough for this time,
stay tuned for more rambling-

Things I do not understand about life and/or people

Hi Guys!

It’s safe to say that there is quite a number of things out there I do not understand, for example the internet, electricity and how a gasoline engine works. While these things are somewhat related to the field of technology and/or science, a field in which I’ve never been too gifted, there also is quite a number of life-related things I cannot comprehend. Here’s some of them:

  1. My bed gets cozier after the alarm clock went off

I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all been there: Not having slept particularly well during the night but as soon as our alarm in the morning goes off our bed suddenly gets a lot cozier and more comfortable. Or is it just the indignation to get up? I think so.

  2. Why people answer their phones while brushing teeth/ doing other bathroom activities

Some of the people I know will answer their phones under given circumstances, only to mumble “I’ll call back in a few, I’m brushing my teeth” while their mouths are filled with a delicious mixture of tooth paste and spit. Please, just call me back when you have finished your business. I most probably can wait two more minutes. If I can’t I will let you know.

  3. Dentists who think I’m up to small talk whilst both of their hands are in my mouth

Mr. Dentist, please, I’d ten times rather lie on that chair in uncomfortable silence than being forced to mumble ‘mhm’s and ‘aha’s as you give your best to be entertaining.

  4. Why hairdressers can’t do hair

I think it’s save to say that in my life I’ve been to like twice to a hairdressers who did a decent job with my hair. But why do all these other hairdresser do the exact opposite of what I tell them? Mostly, I’d be better off doing it myself (which I in fact have done at times!).

  5. Why people are okay with being in crappy reality shows

I totally think everybody should do or not do what he or she thinks is right. What I don’t get is why some people think being in a cheaply produced reality show is a decent thing to do. Somebody explain it to me.

Basically, like half of the time I don’t even know what I’m on about. Luckily there is an app for almost anything.

I’m Not Ready For Windows 10

Aloha Guys,

So, my mind is still blown: Only a few minutes ago I somehow managed to put on audio response on my computer and, besides it really scarring me, I once more realized that technology and I go just as well together as water and oil. (FYI: Meaning we don’t go well together.)
Examplé: A few weeks ago the USB cable connecting my laptop to my printer died and, after mourning its death, I realized the printer also can be used wireless! What a world we live in! Mind = blown. I’d always known that there were weird things like wireless printing, but not until I tried it out the first time myself I realized it was actually a thing! The wireless printing incident got me thinking about another things I am simply not ready for: Windows 10.
I was thinking ahead when the news were announced: I went ahead and reserved a copy of 10; being almost enthusiastic about the time I would be able to get it. Now, that I would actually be able to get is there is no way leading there. It would not only mean losing the loved familiarity of my homescreen, it would also mean my (already very limited) computer skills would be good for nothing! Some of my family’s members downloaded 10 and I do not agree with it’s design (which might actually be a lot better, who am I to judge?).

Fact is: No matter how easy a technology is to use, however ‘user friendly’ it may be, it’s too much for me to deal with. In fact, most of my friends won’t even let me use their phones because there’s a 50/50 chance that they won’t work after I had my hands upon them. Honestly, many a times I am over-challenged with only turning my laptop on, and I will not hesitate to call my brother if dubious pop-ups advertise updates and improvements.

Anybody else out there? (Please, I can’t be the only one!)

So if you don’t mind I’ll crawl back in my cave now and continue living in Stone Age.
